The Director of Chrono Cross was well aware of the response many gamers would have to such a huge departure from Chrono Trigger, prior to the release of the game. His thoughts mirror mine, when he said:
The original PlayStation was my primary console when I began actively investing in video games. Before the PlayStation I was more of a holidays only kind of video game acquirer, a friend’s house and pizza shop arcade gamer. The RPGs of the PlayStation changed that, with games like Legend of Dragoon, Final Fantasy 7, Lunar 2 and Suikoden, but my favorite of all was Chrono Cross.
Chrono Cross’ narrative, it’s unique and exciting combat system and the characters, oh the characters. The story of Serge, Kid, Lynx and a cast of over 45 party members was deep and endearing and captured my imagination like never before. Easily one of my favorite games of all time, I can’t recommend Chrono Cross (when it finally becomes available for download) enough. Give the soundtrack a listen, at the least!
Any Ranters share my undying love for Chrono Cross? Or are you among those can couldn’t stand the game’s drastic differences from Chrono Trigger?
Chrono Cross will be available for download over the PlayStation Network sometime in the (likely) distant future. Stay tuned to Game Rant for more information as it breaks.
