Previous tributes to No Way Home have seen players recreating the sequence where the three Spider-Man swing together via photo mode, with others using mods to capture the moment where the characters converse about their histories as superheroes. The clip from Redditor WolverineKuzuri93 being so different is what makes it special, though.

The brief, six-second video shows a segment from Spider-Man’s final battle with Green Goblin, and many fans will undoubtedly remember the move. After beating the cruel villain, Peter uses his webs to pull his head down into his knee before flipping over Osborn’s head and slamming him into the ground. The maneuver looks brutal, with Goblin’s neck crumbling as it hits the floor, though it is not the first time that fans have seen the friendly neighborhood hero pull off this kind of attack.
One of the many finishing moves in Marvel’s Spider-Man is very similar to this flip and slam, and for this reason, many fans likely thought of the game during this climactic fight. For this reason, the Redditor adds the triangle and circle buttons above Green Goblin’s head, with the addition making the connection even more clear than it was before. While Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: No Way Home are two very different adaptations, both star a hero with a distinct movement and fighting style, something that this shared takedown captures.
With the buttons disappearing after Spidey begins the flip, the fan has done a great job of mimicking the act of a finisher being activated by a player. Unsurprisingly, the post was well received, with some of the 4,200 people that upvoted the post saying that they thought of the game’s finishers when this happened as well. Others said that they did not make the connection initially, but thanks to this edit, they cannot unsee the similarity. With the movie using a Marvel’s Spider-Man quote from Aunt May while also adapting a move where Spidey kicked Kingpin through a floor, there are some more deliberate connections for fans to appreciate.
With a few of Spider-Man: No Way Home’s suits in Marvel’s Spider-Man, the minds behind both versions of the character have shown some love for each other’s work. Hopefully, official and fan-made tributes continue to be seen in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and beyond.
