General consensus on Halo Infinite is that its multiplayer is mechanically fantastic with poor monetization and progression, and the single-player has similarly fantastic play with a weaker story and an emptier open world. While there are problems there, no one can deny the fantastic gameplay, and while it may not be a narrative darling, a recent clip shows that Halo Infinite may have potential as a speedrunner playground.

Mint Blitz, a YouTuber focusing on Halo content, got creative with movement in Halo Infinite and stumbled upon what looks like a skip that completely shatters the game’s physics. The homebrewed skip uses simple ingredients: a Gravity Hammer, a Warthog, the Grappleshot, and the Thruster. First, slam the Warthog with the Hammer and send it flying. Next, grapple the flying Warthog, creating a slingshot that launches Master Chief. While soaring through the air, use the Thruster to perform a short dash that just keeps going. If this is consistent, it could seriously cut down on the time to complete Halo Infinite.
According to Mint Blitz, the maneuver sent them on a three kilometer slingshot, or about two miles. After flying up and out for almost a minute, they landed on top of a tower, and while there was not really a safe way to get down, it proves the potential of such a huge distance traverser. With proper timing and some good aim, players could theoretically cross the map at unheard-of speeds, making speedrunning a new hidden mode in Halo Infinite.
There are ramifications of this when it comes to Halo Infinite’s campaign beyond just making it shorter, like the question of how many important events can be skipped by a form of traversal like this. Maybe it will make getting Halo Infinite’s Mythic Medals easier, or maybe it will only have a few niche uses.
It is likely that any practical uses the trick has will be exhaustively known in short order as players fully excavate everything that Halo Infinite has to offer in its new campaign. Hopefully these do not cause controversey, as Halo’s subreddit shutting down again would be unfortunate.
Halo Infinite releases December 8 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
