An irate Twitter user attacked Bleszinski on the social media website, upset that he was unable to get a refund for Lawbreakers, Boss Key’s arena shooter that failed to find its footing in an over-saturated market. Bleszinski responded to the user by stating that this type of attack was “another reason I am NEVER making another game.” Bleszinski further elaborated in his response that he hadn’t taken a salary for two years and that he had continued to pay his employees for months after Boss Key’s closure so that they could support their families.

It’s hard to argue with Bleszinski’s reasoning as to why he wants out the industry for good. There tends to be a vocal minority of negative people online, and negativity always seems to be a bit more memorable than any positivity. Couple that with the physical and financial strains of game development, and it becomes obvious why so many developers are inclined to leave the games industry after just a few years. Not to mention Lawbreakers had a notoriously low launch player count, which certainly added salt to Bleszinski’s wounds.

It’s disappointing that Bleszinski has no plans to make any more games. Gears Of War and Unreal Tournament are some of the most beloved franchises in all of gaming, and Bleszinski played a large role in their creation. This doesn’t mean Bleszinski will no longer be creating anything, though. The ex-game designer currently has a book in the works and has already teased one of its chapters.

Hopefully, Bleszinski will one day change his mind and return to creating games. He’s a talented person with a unique personality, something that helped propel his career to such a high level of acclaim. There also appears to be no shortage of creativity when it comes to the work his studios produce, as the unused concept art Boss Key released after their closure is pretty stunning. Regardless, we wish Bleszinski all the best in his future endeavors.
