Clubhouse Is Set to Launch Its Android App Worldwide
During one of its in-app town hall meetings (conducted weekly, every Sunday), Clubhouse announced that it will be slowly rolling out its Android app in different countries until it’s available worldwide. That said, it will remain invite-only.
This comes a little over a week after Clubhouse released on Android in only the US.
The release schedule is as follows:
May 18 – Japan, Brazil, Russia May 21 (morning) – Nigeria, India May 21 (afternoon) – The rest of the world
Clubhouse is also “working on feature parity with iOS,” which is a very much-needed improvement. The Android app apparently isn’t nearly as polished as its iOS counterpart. Here’s how TechCrunch described its functionality upon release:
How Clubhouse Took Social Media by Storm
For a whole year after its release, Clubhouse was an iOS-only app. You might think that would have hindered its success and growth in the mobile market, but such an assumption couldn’t be more incorrect.
Despite being limited to iOS devices, Clubhouse’s few speakers vs. many listeners format caught interest of millions of people.
This included high-profile celebrities, politicians, and entrepreneurs—though it arguably wasn’t until Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Tesla “Technoking” Elon Musk made their appearances that Clubhouse’s numbers really began to boom.
In fact, there was once a time where Clubhouse’s 3.5 million downloads doubled in just two weeks. Other social media networks and app development teams saw that success, and tried to gain some for themselves by creating their own versions of Clubhouse’s offerings.
Some of which, actually beat Clubhouse to Android—effectively stealing a good number of people that would’ve been a part of Clubhouse’s userbase had it arrived on the platform sooner.
Will Clubhouse Emerge Victorious Amongst All Its Competition?
Twitter Spaces is likely Clubhouse’s biggest competition right now, though that could change whenever Facebook launches its rumored copycat app.
It’ll be difficult for Clubhouse to flourish when there are so many alternatives trying to take its crown, but who knows? Maybe the startup company is secretly preparing a new feature that’ll blow all its competitors out of the water, and is simply waiting for the right time to unveil it.
