The Hellfire Knight DLC adds new weapons, Blood Veils, character creation items, and alternate costumes for the player’s companion, which can be obtained by exploring The Fiery Oblivion, a new location that has opened up in the Depths. In addition, the DLC introduces a new side story that ends in a boss battle with the titular Hellfire Knight for players to sink their teeth into. New blood codes will also become available, which allow players to use Gifts that recreate the abilities of the Hellfire Knight.

For players who own the standard edition of Code Vein, Hellfire Knight can be purchased separately for $9.99, but access to the DLC is included in the deluxe edition of the game and is also available via the season pass that can be acquired for $24.99. The season pass will provide three new DLC releases for the game in total—Hellfire Knight being the first, the second planned for February, and the third coming in March.
Along with the Hellfire Knight DLC, Patch 1.30 also fixed a few issues with the game and added the ability for players to now teleport from one location in the Depths to another, provided that the Mistles in each area have already been found. Resting at a Mistle or using an item to return to a Mistle will also now revive nearby bosses that had previously been defeated.
Code Vein takes place in a post-apocalyptic dystopian world where some humans have been revived after death and become immortal vampiric creatures known as Revenants. As a member of the hidden Revenant society known as the Vein, the game’s protagonist has lost their memories as a result of becoming a Revenant and now seeks the truth of their forgotten past.
The game is considered by many to be a Soulsborne game, meaning it features a difficulty level and gameplay mechanics similar to those of the Dark Souls and Bloodborne games developed by FromSoftware. There are a few unique differences, however. In Code Vein, leveling up increases all stats, so the player doesn’t need to select which attributes to increase based on a particular character build or playstyle, and using an item called a blood code allows the player to switch class at any time during the game. Additionally, an AI companion accompanies and fights alongside the player throughout the majority of the game.
Code Vein was released in September 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
